Established in 2009, Cat Camp is an extended orientation program that prepares students for their first year by teaching Texas State history and traditions, creating connections between new and current students, and providing them with all the resources to be successful in their first year as a Bobcat. Students are able to learn all the reasons to be proud to be a Bobcat and develop confidence in their ability to successfully transition into our community.
About Cat Camp
Student-led & Student-run
Each year dedicated students from the Bobcat Connection Team come together to plan a program designed to welcome their new peers to Texas State University. The Connection Leaders play an integral role in ensuring that all Cat Camp participants are thoroughly introduced to the Texas State community through sharing their experiences as students and teaching the campers about all things Texas State!
Discussion Groups
Students are placed in discussion groups, led by current Texas State students, that stay together throughout the entire camp session. These groups follow a curriculum that allows for intentional reflective discussion about the camp activities and to help pass down first hand knowledge about with it is like to be a student at Texas State University.
Camp Maroon & Camp Gold
Each session is split into two camps: Camp Maroon and Camp Gold. Each camp will have similar schedules with staggered times to allow for small group sizes in some of our larger activities. This is to ensure that students feel comfortable and are able to build more genuine relationships.
There will be Camp competitions that take place, and the winning camp will gain possession of the Cat Camp spirit stick!
